Pink October

Its that time of year again to Think Pink!
Please join The Brick Basement in support of the
Susan G. Komen foundation on
October 4th from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

Candy & I worked on our space for several hours in preparation of Monday's event.
Candy covered a vintage ironing board in this sweet floral and it matches my apron perfectly!

Here is a sampling of Candy's hand made paper goods.

Lots of spooky Halloween decorations!

 Candy's cake topper!
I love this wreath made from old paper.

One of Candy's Victorian cones.

I'm sorry the pictures aren't sharp; my camera is acting up.

If you are in Southern California come join the fun. You can find more information here.

Autumn or Summer?

I think it is Autumn but Southern Cal is behaving like summer!
I'm so in the mood for Fall decorating and baking but it was an unseasonable and unreasonable 106* on my deck in the shade today! Needless to say I didn't do much of anything. I hope all of you are staying nice and cool.

Happy Autumn!

Me & Stinky!

What to do if your dog gets skunked?!
I should have seen this coming.....

On the way home from back to school night I saw a very large skunk on my road not too far from my driveway. I smiled and thought,"Oh how cute you are, Pepe la Peu!"

And 2 hours later I let the dog out; big, big, huge, ginormous(yes its a word) mistake!

I called her back in and her mouth was foaming like she had eaten soap and then the smell hit me as she raced through my house, UGH!

I had recently read what to do if your dog gets skunked so I knew not to use tomato juice although many swear by it....

Here is the recipe:
  • *1 quart (or liter) of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, H2O2.
Use fresh (unopened) hydrogen peroxide (H2O2).
Hydrogen peroxide eventually turns into water (H2O).
*1/4 cup (50 ml.) of Baking Soda
*1teaspoon (5 ml.) of Liquid Soap
*1pair of plastic or latex gloves

I'll let you know if this works in a day or so. So far my house smells worse than the dog!

A "mini reveal"

Here's why I was so secretly painting....

2 Girls and....

....a blank slate!
Ive taken a space at the Brick Basement in downtown Fullerton.

My good friend Candy works her magic adding festive fall touches to the displays.
She's a very talented artist. You wont believe the things she makes. I hope to have pictures of her work to share with you soon.

Here is the hutch after a few coats of creamy white paint.

Gorgeous Fall & Harvest plates. Have I told you how much I love dishes?
I cant get enough of them!

A spooky vignette. Beware!

Mr. Jack O'Lantern is ready for Trick or Treaters.

I love the colors of Fall. The weather turned surprisingly cool today,
it feels like pumpkin pie baking time!

Tea time anyone?
I will show you more soon.

Honey, we have a situation! As in Bees!

Let me say for the record I like bees. Yep, I do. I don't get excited when they come around and run screaming with my arms flapping about. Bees are a good thing.
However....

They do not belong 15 feet off my deck swarming about and terrorizing the dog, cats and children. Even though they are minding their own business the whole house is in a tizzy.
Yes, dear that is a hive!
A very large hive that appeared over night, literally. We were eating dinner and looked out at the deck and saw them swarming like crazy. My youngest son wants to eat the honey. He thinks he's Winnie the Pooh! He doesn't realize retrieving it could be costly and painful. After watching from a safe distance and much distraction from dinnertime we decided not to let them move in and unpack their belongings. We wont be baking a welcome to the neighborhood pie.
Please stand back ma'am, this is a job for a trained professional!

This little episode was quite exciting for my 3 boys, yes even my big boy. They plotted their strategy and an emergency "sting plan". One held the garden hose and one held the door.

Mission accomplished, bees relocated.

p.s. I will post what all the painting is about soon.
